A barrel case, screwed down at the bezel.
The tonneau shape is curved on all four sides with a ring of star-head screws set around the bezel and a knurled crown at three. The case is black right through, so the colour comes from the strap and the chapter ring rather than the metal.
You can see straight through it.
The dial is opened right out: crossed bridges over exposed gearing, red jewels at the pivots, and a coloured minute track running round the outside. Behind it sits a curved date scale on the left, which is where you read the date — there is no window. The hands hold a glow once they have had some light.

Onyx Black is the one that behaves. Onyx Blue and Onyx Red are the two people ask about. Onyx Yellow is the one you buy if you have already decided you do not care what anyone thinks.
It stands 19mm tall.
That is the number to pay attention to. The case is nearly two centimetres deep, which is a lot of watch on a wrist and will not slide under a fitted cuff. The silicone strap is 20cm long on a plain buckle.
Please read before ordering: this watch is not waterproof. It handles a splash and nothing more — take it off before you wash your hands, and keep it away from the shower, the sea and the pool. The case is a polished alloy rather than stainless steel, the crystal is glass rather than a hardened mineral one, and it arrives without a presentation box. It is a large, tall watch; if you normally wear something flat and under 40mm, this will feel like a different category.

Is it water resistant?+
No. The supplier rates it as not waterproof. A splash is survivable; washing your hands with it on is not. Keep it out of the shower, the sea and the pool.
How big is it, really?+
Big. The barrel case stands 19mm deep, which is the tallest watch we sell, and the dial opening measures 30 to 34mm across depending where you take it. It sits high on the wrist and it is meant to. It will not go under a fitted shirt cuff.
Is there a date?+
Yes, but not in a window. A curved date scale sits on the left of the dial and you read the date off it through the skeleton. It takes a moment to get used to, and it is part of why the dial looks the way it does.
Is it mechanical? Can I see the movement?+
It is quartz, running on a battery that is already fitted, so it never needs winding. What you see through the dial is a decorated skeleton plate around the movement rather than a mechanical calibre filling the case. One owner puts it plainly: the movement itself is quite small. We would rather you knew that than felt misled by the photographs.
What is the case made of?+
A polished alloy, not stainless steel. That is what keeps a case this size wearable and keeps it at this price.
What is the crystal?+
Glass, not a hardened mineral crystal. It is clear and it does the job, but it marks more easily than the crystals on our steel watches. Worth knowing on a watch that stands this proud of the wrist.
Does it come in a box?+
No. It arrives packed for the post but without a presentation box. If it is a gift, that is worth knowing before you order.
Do the hands glow in the dark?+
The hands and markers carry a luminous coating and hold a glow for a while after light. It is a soft glow rather than a torch — enough to read the time in a dark room.
Which colour should I pick?+
If you want to wear it with everything, Onyx Black. If you want it noticed, Onyx Red or Onyx Blue. Onyx Yellow is the loudest of the four and the one that looks best against dark clothing — an owner recommends exactly that, wearing something dark so the colour reads instead of getting lost.
