Eight sides, and not one of them shouts.

Round is the default. Bexley Watch is not round, and that is the only unusual thing about it. Everything else here is deliberately quiet.

Bexley Watch in Steel Black

A cut case, brushed flat across the top.

The octagon is cut with a wide flat face and polished chamfers down the sides, so the top holds a fine horizontal grain and the edges throw a bright line. It is the detail that stops a plain dial from reading as plain.

Bexley Watch octagonal case and cream dial in close-up

Two numerals. That is the whole dial.

A 12 at the top, a 6 at the bottom, slim batons at the rest and a fine dotted minute track. Cream, not white, so it reads warm against a shirt cuff rather than clinical. No date, no sub-dials, nothing to read but the time.

Four finishes, plus one in all black.

Steel, rose gold and gold on a black leather strap, rose gold on tan, and an all-black version for anyone who wants it to disappear entirely. The steel one is the safest thing you will ever put on your wrist.

Bexley Watch in four finishes

11.5mm, on leather.

Thin enough to sit under a cuff and light enough to forget, on a soft leather strap with a simple buckle. It measures 22.5cm, so it fits a slim wrist properly rather than hanging.

Please read before ordering: this watch is not water resistant. Not splash proof, not rain proof. Take it off before you wash your hands. The case is a polished alloy rather than stainless steel, and it arrives without a presentation box. It is a light, simple, inexpensive watch and it is priced like one; what you are buying is the shape.

FAQ

Is it water resistant?+

No. Not at all. The supplier rates this one as not water resistant, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it. Keep it away from taps, rain and sinks, and take it off before you wash your hands. If you want a watch you can forget about in the rain, this is not it.

What is the case made of?+

A polished alloy, not stainless steel. That is what keeps it light and keeps it at this price. The glass is a hardened mineral crystal, chosen for scratch resistance.

Does it come in a box?+

No. It arrives protected for the post but without a presentation box. If it is a gift, that is worth knowing before you order.

How large does it wear?+

The octagonal case is 11.5mm deep on a 22.5cm leather strap. One owner with a slim wrist says it fits perfectly, which is the usual worry with an angular case.

Is there a date window?+

No. Two hands, a seconds hand, and nothing else on the dial. That is the point of it.

Does it need winding?+

No. It is quartz, so it runs on a battery and keeps time on its own. One owner specifically notes there is no play in the crown, which is not always true at this money.

Is it a luxury watch?+

No, and an owner puts it better than we could: it is simple, it is inexpensive, and you should not expect luxury. What you get is a genuinely good-looking shape at a price that does not ask you to think about it.

Can I wear it with a suit?+

Yes, and with jeans. The owner reviews say the same thing twice over: it is versatile, and it does not shout in either direction.

Which finish should I pick?+

Steel Black is the one that goes with everything. Rose Gold Tan is the warm one and the best with brown shoes. Gold Black is the boldest. Onyx Black is the one that disappears.
