Most watches show you two hands and keep the rest to themselves. Drayton Watch opens the dial up and lets you watch the wheels turn.
The dial is the movement.
Skeletonised right through: openworked bridges, exposed gearing and a bare centre wheel, all in silver against black. There are no numerals and no date to interrupt it, only the machinery and two luminous hands cutting across the middle.
A barrel case, screwed down at the bezel.
The tonneau shape is the hard one to get right — curved on all four sides, wider than it is deep, with twelve star-head screws set around the bezel and a knurled crown at three. It is the sort of case that reads as engineering rather than jewellery.
Two finishes, one dial.
All Black, which swallows the light, and Rose Gold, where the case and every screw head go warm and the dial stays black. Both run on the same ribbed silicone strap.
42mm, and it wears every millimetre.
The case measures 42mm across and stands tall on the wrist, which is the first thing owners mention: very big and heavy, I was not expecting that. It weighs only 39g, so what you feel is the volume rather than the mass. The silicone strap is 24cm long and 20mm wide, on a plain buckle.
Please read before ordering: this watch is not waterproof. It handles a splash and nothing more — take it off before you wash your hands, and keep it out of the shower, the sea and the pool. There is no date window. The case is a polished alloy rather than stainless steel, and it arrives without a presentation box. It is also a large, tall watch; if you normally wear something under 40mm, this will feel like a big step up.

Is it water resistant?+
Splashes only. The supplier is explicit about it: do not wash your hands with it on, do not bathe in it, do not swim or dive with it. Rain caught on the way to the car is fine; anything past that is not. We would rather say so here than let you find out.
How large does it wear?+
Large. The case is 42mm across and it stands noticeably tall, and owners say so in almost the same words — one calls it very big and heavy, another says the case sits very tall. Both still rated it five stars. If that sounds like the wrong watch for you, it probably is.
Is there a date window?+
No. Some listings for this style claim a calendar; this one does not have one. Hours, minutes and seconds, and an open dial behind them. Nothing else.
What is the case made of?+
A polished alloy, not stainless steel. That is what keeps a case this size down to 39g and keeps the price where it is. The glass is a hardened mineral crystal, chosen for scratch resistance.
Does it come in a box?+
No. It arrives packed for the post but without a presentation box. If it is a gift, that is worth knowing before you order.
Is it mechanical? Does it need winding?+
No. The open dial shows a decorated skeleton plate, but the watch runs on quartz and a battery, so it keeps time on its own and never needs winding. We would rather be straight about that than let the dial imply otherwise.
Do the hands glow in the dark?+
The hands carry a luminous coating, so they hold a glow for a while after light. It is a soft glow rather than a torch — enough to read the time in a dark room, not enough to light one.
What is the strap like, and will it fit me?+
Ribbed silicone, 24cm long and 20mm wide, on a plain buckle. Soft, easy to wipe clean, and long enough for most wrists. On a slim wrist the strap will fit — it is the width of the case that will feel big, not the band.
Which finish should I pick?+
All Black is the quieter of the two, if a watch this size can be called quiet — everything but the hands and the screw heads disappears. Rose Gold is the one people will comment on. Same dial, same strap, entirely different watch on the wrist.
